Bricks Need Mortar created and executed dual campaigns to most effectively drive foot traffic and spending to Portland small businesses for the 2025 holiday season.
Shop + Stay Portland Holiday was born from reviewing doom loop data indicating significant declines of Portland median incomes, with higher income earners outmigrating from Portland.
BNM saw an opportunity to leverage Oregon’s No Sales Tax status to draw individuals up and down the West Coast to bring shoppers to Portland for a tax free shopping vacation.
Working with Portland hotels with special holiday vacation packagers, we targeted individuals seeking easy and affordable getaways amidst economic uncertainty and weakened consumer confidence. Partnering hotels distributed Discover the Heart of Portland Small Shops Guides, packaged along with marketing materials provided by participating small businesses, to direct visitors to small businesses.
Additionally, we ran a parallel campaign capitalizing on Portland’s sense of pride amidst federal policy dissatisfaction and protest. Along with partners, thousands of dollars of prizes were given away, encouraging Portlanders to patronize small and local Portland businesses.
